MANUEL NEUER – NOTE 1: In his 19th European Championship game for Germany, the goalkeeper overtook Bastian Schweinsteiger (18 games) and is now the German record holder. After a long time hardly being challenged, he was then there, as so often: after a Danish counterattack, Neuer cleared past striker Höjlund and prevented the 0-1 (45th). World class! He then struck again at Höjlund's hammer (66').
JOSHUA KIMMICH – NOTE 3: In the days before the match, he became known as an amateur gardener and planted in DFB-Camp a tree. Also involved in his main job as a right back: Schmeichel saved a shot from Kimmich (7th) from afar. Offensively driven. No big mistakes.
What a defense tower! Antonio Rüdiger simply blocks everything
ANTONIO RÜDIGER – NOTE 1: He recovered quickly after his thigh strain and did not want to miss this match under any circumstances. And it paid off: a very important save against Eriksen's shot (21') would have been difficult. Höjlund was also blocked by the Real Madrid star (33'). Rüdiger could not be overcome. Up!
NICO SCHLOTTERBECK – NOTE 2: Home game for Dortmund professional, who came on as a substitute for suspended Jonathan Tah (second yellow card). A bitter feeling: His header, which was supposed to make it 1-0, was ruled out for a foul on Kimmich (4th). Dangerous from a set piece: Schmeichel deflected his header from a corner (7th), then headed over (37th). Then, after losing the ball in his own area, Höjlund almost scored the 0-1 (42nd). DAVID ROOM – NOTE 2: After his strong wild card performance against Switzerland, including an assist, he was rewarded with a first start. Maximilian Mittelstädt sat on the bench. Bayern star Leroy Sané is fully motivated, but he doesn't achieve everything
LEROY SANÉ – NOTE 3: For the first time he was allowed to start at this European Championship, but Florian Wirtz had to make way for the Bayern star. Fully motivated, he was fouled just before the penalty area after a solo effort in the middle of the pitch (15th). He tried again and again, alone: he didn't succeed in all of them. He can make up for that in the quarter-finals.
KAI HAVERTZ – NOTE 2: The Arsenal professional made it into the starting eleven because Niclas Füllkrug has so far proven to be a great joker. Nagelsmann did not want to change that. He started motivated, Havertz volleyed a long pass from Rüdiger and saved (10th). Great header chance that Schmeichel missed (37'). It was really great how he converted the penalty from the inside post to make it 1-0 (53'). His second goal of the tournament. He missed the 2-0 against Schmeichel (59'). Good performance.
NICLAS FILLING JAR – NOTE 3: In the 64th minute he replaced Gündogan. Integrated right away, he brought a lot of momentum.
EMRE CAN – NOTE 3: The Dortmund player replaced Andrich (64th), and eventually had to achieve victory. Reliable. He accomplished his task. Clearance in the area (83').
