WhatsApp has presented on its own blog two new features that are being implemented for the community function. Events can be created and it is now possible to respond in ad groups. We give an overview.

WhatsApp now also offers events

Anyone who regularly uses WhatsApp communities will be happy with the current update. Because the messaging app that belongs to Meta is introducing an event feature. This allows you to organize gatherings such as birthday parties, excursions or other events within a community.

These can be created by anyone within the community and everyone else can respond using the corresponding button and not only accept or reject, but also leave additional comments. Both the responses and the event itself are visible to everyone. The latter even through the community information page.

Additionally, a notification will be sent to participants when the event approaches. It is not clear from the notification whether the reminder period can be selected. According to WhatsApp, the events are initially available to communities and will also be available to all other groups “in the coming months.”

Ad Groups Get Responsive Feature

The second WhatsApp innovation concerns the so-called ad groups within a community. These allow you to quickly share news with all members of a WhatsApp community. With the new update it is now possible to reply to these messages.

These responses are grouped and minimized so that the clarity of an ad group is not lost. By default, response notifications are disabled for the administrator. However, they can be activated manually.

WhatsApp has already announced that these will not be the only improvements for communities and groups in general. So keep your eyes peeled for more announcements.
