Saturday is a special day in the world of college football. ESPN’s long-running pregame show, College Game Dayis in Boulder for the game between the Colorado Buffaloes and the Colorado State Rams, and at the end of this edition of the program, Match day The Lee Corso institution will don a head covering and make a pickaxe, a tradition that has continued since 1996.

This will be the 400th time the 88-year-old football coach-turned-host has ended the show with a choice of headgear, and to celebrate the occasion, the fine folks at Match day I decided to call a friend and ask him to do something special. In a pre-recorded video, USC fan and former Match day guest selector Will Ferrell congratulated Corso on this milestone before releasing his own headgear: the helmet that Ricky Bobby wore in the film Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

It’s both very cool that Ferrell participated in this Corso celebration and no surprise that he decided to have fun with this mission. We’ll have to wait and see if they ask him to make another one with a different headgear, like that little hat Buddy the Elf wore. Elf or the hat he wore during the Gator scene in The other guys.
