NAfter a sunny winter weekend in many places, the weather forecast is changing again – we can expect wet snow and sometimes strong blizzards. High Corvin bids farewell to southeastern Europe, the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Sunday. “We're moving more and more into the storm Iris radius across the Atlantic, giving us a windy to stormy and unstable, but also milder start to the week.”

Showers will move across Germany on Monday and reach the southeast in the afternoon. Meteorologists are expecting strong squalls in the mountains and on the coast, and hurricane-like outbursts may occur in the North Sea. At night, the wind dies down only slowly.

Due to weather changes, the flood situation in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia may become more acute again. “Temperatures will rise to double digits in some areas by Wednesday, which means the snow will start to melt,” Cathleen Hickmann of DWD told the German Press Agency.

Ferries may be suspended

Due to the wind forecast, some ferry connections to the East Frisian Islands will be canceled on Monday. Some ferries to and from Norderney, Juist and Spiekeroog are affected. The ferry companies announced this on their websites on Sunday.

Holidaymakers will probably have to wait for restrictions on the ferry from Neuharlingersiel to Spiekeroog and back on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a complete shutdown is also possible, as the ferry company also announced.

Britain and Ireland are also bracing for stormy weather. The British weather service Met Office warned of extremely strong winds and rain. It was quite unusual for the entire country to be under a wind warning, a weather service meteorologist told the PA news agency. Storm Isha was expected to hit the island on Sunday afternoon.
