In the latest episode of the RTL2 social documentary “Hartz und Herzlich” the life of Jasmin, a 21-year-old beneficiary of citizen benefits, is shown. Since she had her son Lennox with her husband Maik, Jasmin says she has felt really independent and grown up. She is developing quickly and steadily.

“Others would say that continuing to grow also means working,” says Jasmin. “Just find a good job in the job market these days that you like! I don’t want to do any work if I don’t enjoy it in the end!”

He is also a sensible person who does things in the right order. “I want to complete my family planning first before I really focus on my professional life,” says Jasmin. “Race first” just doesn't work.

She and Maik are “good parents,” although the youth welfare office always has “a lot to complain about.”

A quarter of all young people are at risk of poverty

Research by the ZDF has recently shown that young parents, especially, often have difficulties financing their children. According to these data, a quarter of young people in Germany are now at risk of falling into poverty, much more than is generally assumed.
