EThe truck driver drove the burning trailer six kilometers through the Rennsteig tunnel. According to the police, the truck caught fire in the tunnel.
When the driver was unable to extinguish the fire, he was happy to drive out of the tunnel so that nothing worse would happen. According to the police, the fire started late on Thursday and spread from a tire to an entire trailer and several loaded cars.
The driver reached the tunnel exit “literally at the last second”, it said. No one was hurt, the tunnel fire department took over the extinguishing work.
The A71 will be fully closed at tunnel level for the time being, it said. The damage is currently estimated at around 250,000 euros.
