WWhat does Friedrich Merz want to say to the Dresden city councilors of the CDU when he talks to them “about everything else”? How does he want to convince them that when they agreed to an AfD application, they acted “correctly” but “unacceptably in the process”? The behavior of the Dresden CDU parliamentary group is unacceptable because there is a decision by the CDU and the chairman's word not to work with the AfD.

There is also a difference whether the AfD agrees to an application from the CDU or the CDU agrees to an application from the AfD. “The thing” remains: When the SPD, the Greens and the Left block what the CDU thinks is right, they do so because they know that the CDU can only assert itself with the help of the AfD. Here too, the “procedure” is the flip side of the “thing”.

The SPD and the Greens don’t care

If Merz were chairman of the Greens, the SPD or the Left, he wouldn't have this problem. Who cares about the social democratic Taurus joining forces with the AfD? Who still turns up their nose at the toleration of a red-green state government by the PDS, which was observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution at the time? Who about local green or left-wing camaraderie with the AfD?

The double standards in these cases know no bounds. Should the CDU play this game? She may be able to act smarter than her Dresden friends. But she shouldn't let herself be made into a buffoon.
