MWith the help of two children, the South Palatinate police caught a man after running. The 39-year-old mother of the children parked at a supermarket in Kandel on Saturday and briefly let her eight- and ten-year-old siblings play alone in the car, the police said on Sunday.
The children watched as the man pushed his driver's side door into their car and drove away. They wrote his number plate on a handkerchief.
The mother then called the police, who said they also received a “detailed driver's description” from the boy and girl. Officers found the 64-year-old suspect at home and started criminal proceedings against him in a hit-and-run. The damage to both cars amounted to 500 euros.
