The BASF Group sees no problem in creating application documents using artificial intelligence (AI), “as long as the content corresponds to reality.” This was announced by a company spokesperson at the request of the German Press Agency.

“AI is a technology of the future,” the statement said. “We want our applicants to be open to new technologies and in principle it is not prohibited to use generative AI to create application documents.”

Cover letters play a minor role in the selection process.

To date, BASF has not systematically checked application documents for possible use of AI in its creation, the spokeswoman said. However, requests of this type have already been received.

“As there is no systematic review, we cannot give a figure,” the spokeswoman said. Although greater use is expected, the application letter plays a subordinate role in the selection process for training positions. “The importance of fitness diagnosis is low.”

BASF evaluates application documents using AI

BASF, for its part, uses AI to evaluate application documents. “The CV undergoes document analysis using artificial intelligence, in which words and phrases are recognized and assigned to individual sections, such as personal data, professional experience and skills,” the spokeswoman said. However, a human is responsible for evaluating each application.

A survey by the German Press Agency, in which 16 of the 40 DAX companies participated, recently suggested that some large German companies expressly like a reference to AI in their applications.
