In January, Elon Musk's medical technology company Neuralink inserted its brain implant into a human for the first time. The businessman then announced that the patient was fine and could control a computer mouse. He has now shared a video on channel X of him in which the patient can be seen playing a game of chess.

Neuralink patient had a serious diving accident

It shows a Neuralink engineer and the first user of the Neuralink device, who introduces himself as Noland Arbaugh (29). He also talks about the difficult fate of him. He had a diving accident about eight years ago. Since then he was paralyzed from the shoulders down.

But the live broadcast was not only intended to introduce patients. It was also about the opportunities Neuralink would open up for the 29-year-old. In the video, Arbaugh sits in front of a laptop with a chess game open. He says: “I love playing chess” and this is one of the things that has become possible for him. He moves the pointer with his brain. “It's crazy.”

Noland Arbaugh: “There is still a lot to do”

Despite all the excitement, the Neuralink patient makes it clear that not everything is perfect: “I don't want anyone to think that this is the end of the journey, there is still a lot to do,” he said. But he has already changed his life. The 29-year-old describes the operation as “super simple.” He was released from the hospital a day later.

He justifies his participation in the project by saying that he wanted to be part of something that he believes will change the world.
