The Apple retail chain Gravis is on the brink of collapse. As parent company Freenet AG recently announced, all 37 branches of the renowned chain will “largely” close their doors from June 15, as reported by “Heise Online”. An announcement can also be found on the official website of Freenet AG, but there is no detailed text here.

This decision is not a surprise, since in March clues were given about the imminent end, although without giving an exact calendar. The closure affects both Gravis' fixed stores and online commerce.

Gravis has developed a social plan for its employees

Some “remaining work” should be completed by June 30, mainly repairs to devices currently still in the Gravis service center. However, acceptance of repair orders will only be possible until May 15. Despite closing, the company assures that all warranty rights will be fulfilled even after closing. Details will be posted on the website, which will remain online for the time being.

For the affected employees, whose number could reach 400, a social plan was drawn up that provides for individual severance payments. The amount of these compensations is calculated taking into account various factors such as length of service and possible social benefits. In accordance with the applicable notice periods, layoffs should not take place before June 30, 2024. Freenet emphasizes the importance of employees to Gravis and strives to find a “socially acceptable solution.”
