DThe troops of the military regime in Myanmar are finding themselves increasingly in trouble. Representatives of an ethnic rebel army confirmed to the FAZ on Tuesday that they had captured an important base near the city of Myawaddy near the border with Thailand a few days ago. According to press reports, a complete capture of the city in the state of Kayin opposite the Thai border town of Mae Sot is imminent. A few dozen soldiers from the 275th Infantry Battalion are said to be staying there. The city is of strategic importance as a large part of the overland trade with the neighboring country is carried out through it.
