SV Elversberg against Schalke 04 1:1 (1:0)

The essentials in summary: Schalke 04 lost a major advance in the fight to remain in the 2nd Bundesliga. The relegated Bundesliga team only managed a 1-1 (0-1) draw at the start of matchday 30 against newly promoted SV Elversberg on Friday and is still in the thick of the relegation battle with 36 points. Florian Le Joncour gave the lead to the Sarreños, who have 40 points, in the 18th minute. Keke Topp (59th) scored to equalize.

The visitors started the match with energy and could have taken the lead from the start. However, a powerful shot by Kenan Karaman (6th) only hit the crossbar. After a quarter of an hour, Schalke lost its dominance. Shortly after Jannik Rochelt and Paul Wanner missed a double chance, Le Joncour headed in to make it 1-0 for Elversberg.

The deficit affected Schalke, who dangerously recovered from the opponent's goal shortly before half-time. Again it was Karaman who missed with a header past SVE goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof. Simon Terodde put the rebound near the post.

After the restart, Schalke coach Karel Geraerts did his best for Derry Murkin and thus showed a touch of luck. After almost an hour, the new one tied with a direct pass from Karaman. The Royal Blues were once again the better side in the match, but they were lucky that Wanner's shot (71') hit the crossbar and Rochelt (81'), completely free, was parried by the Schalke goalkeeper in front of Marius Müller .

With five games left in the season, the second division football team FC Schalke04 is still not safe with 35 points in 12th place. This was highlighted by coach Karel Geraerts before Friday's match (6:30 p.m./Sky ) against the newly promoted SV Elversberg. “Believing that we have already done our job would be the biggest mistake we could make. The most important phase of the season is not over yet,” said the coach. Furthermore, the newcomer should not be underestimated.

“If we don't give 100 percent, we will lose. We must not give in under any circumstances,” demanded Geraerts, who has to do without right back Cedric Brunner. The appearance of 17-year-old Assan Ouedraogo (adductor problems) is still uncertain.
