In the parliamentary elections, the candidates of the sidelined Imran Khan are doing better than expected. There are signs of a weak government.

NAfter the parliamentary elections in Pakistan, both former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the camp of the imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed victory. Nawaz Sharif said in a speech to thousands of supporters in Lahore that evening that his PML-N was the strongest party. He invited other parties and independent candidates to coalition negotiations.

After counting more than half of the 266 seats in the national parliament, Khan's candidates were clearly ahead. But they had to run as non-party members. It is considered unlikely that Khan's PTI party could put forward its own candidate for prime minister.
