The new season of Jungle Camp starts on January 19 on RTL. Read here who will host the cult show in 2024 and who has already hosted “I'm a Star – Get Me Out of Here!”

The TV highlight of the year for many reality fans is back in a few weeks: Jungle Camp is on the starting blocks. After much speculation, the candidates who will fight for the jungle crown from January 19 have finally been revealed. However, this year the show times will be slightly different than previous years due to the NFL broadcast.

It has long been certain that Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen will moderate the jungle camp again this year.

For host Jan Köppen, this is the second season of Jungle Camp

After Daniel Hartwich announced his departure from the Jungle Camp in 2022, Jan Köppen stepped in front of the IBES cameras for the first time in 2023 as host alongside Jungle Camp veteran Sonja Zietlow. RTL recently confirmed to “Abendzeitung” that the station will remain with the moderator duo in 2024. “I'm a celebrity, get me out of here!” goes into its 17th round in 2024 and we look forward to Sonja Zietlow and Jan Köppen presenting the show live from Australia every day.

Jan Köppen had anything but an easy start as Hartwich's successor. After all, we had to replace a longtime fan favorite. So it's no wonder that fan reactions to Köppen's Jungle premiere were cautious at first. However, during the 16th season, he was able to win more and more fans' hearts.

These were former jungle camp moderators

Before Jan Köppen commented on the CZ celebrity jungle camp from the treehouse, the job belonged to Daniel Hartwich for ten years. However, the presenter of “Let's Dance” decided to finally say goodbye to the jungle camp in 2022 due to family reasons.

Above all, Dirk Bach created together with Sonja Zietlow – who has been a part of every season of Jungle Camp without exception – in the first show host “I'm a star – get me out of here!”. a few seasons. However, Bach died in 2012 at the age of 51.

He dedicated a farewell letter to his colleague Sonja: “Good Bye, Dickie” was the title of the tribute. “How is it supposed to work? How can you go to the theater tomorrow? How can you go to the German Television Awards and celebrate the fleeting insignificance that is now even more obvious? How can you turn on the TV and know that you can only be seen in canned form? No amount of laughter can to be as exciting, the heart as deep, or the conclusion as apt as yours. And no suspension bridge can sway more beautifully than under your weight. The host recalled their time together on “Jungle Camp” with loving words: “What we got to experience with you was more than just work. Every time I was with you in Australia was the antidote to everything that ails our industry. It was television at its best with a friend, colleague and presenter always moving us forward personally and professionally with his small but energetic steps.

This is how the careers of Jan Köppen and Sonja Zietlow began

Sonja Zietlow has been the host of Jungle Camp for 17 seasons and has long been considered the face of the trash show. The Bonn native had a very different start to his early career. From 1991 to 1993, Zietlow worked as a pilot. However, through her participation in a dating show, she got into television and was discovered as a host. Sonja Zietlow initially made a name for herself on the television scene through children's shows such as “Bim Bam Bino” and “Hugo”. Her own talk show 'Sonja' and other shows such as 'Weaker Flies' followed before she ended up in Jungle Camp in 2004. By the way, she works there with her husband Jens Oliver Haas, whom she has been married to since 2003. The TV writer is responsible for, among other things, jams in the reality format.

Jan Köppen also had a serious career in the beginning and after graduating from high school he started to study law and then business management. However, the now 40-year-old pulled in front of the television cameras. In 2005, Köppen started – initially as a trainee – at music station VIVA, where he stayed until 2007. This was followed by various shows such as “Abgehen” on ZDFinfo or “Küchenkönigin – Das Topfduell” on Sixx. By now, most TV fans probably know Köppen as the host of shows like “Ninja Warrior Germany” or “Take Me Out”. What many fans of the TV star probably don't know: In addition to his work as a presenter, Jan Köppen is also a DJ and painter.
