Sun, rain, Saharan dust: The weather will remain unsettled over the long Easter weekend, but temperatures could be low in most areas.

DPeople in Germany can expect mild temperatures over the Easter long weekend, but this is variable. Meteorologist Marcel Schmid of the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach predicted rain and wind and some sun on Wednesday.

On Maundy Thursday, the sky will be mostly cloudy, the temperature will be 9 to 15 degrees. Rain is expected especially in the north and west, but the east will remain mostly dry. A brief thunderstorm is possible. The air temperature drops to 7 to 1 degrees at night.

According to DWD, the Easter long weekend will start with sunshine south of the Danube on Good Friday, with temperatures in the foothills of the Alps likely to rise above 20C. Otherwise, changeable weather will persist in the areas east of the island. The temperature rises to 10 to 15 degrees in the northwest and 14 to 19 degrees in the southeast.

On Holy Saturday, the sunny weather was overshadowed by dust from the Sahara, meteorologist Schmid said. The sun often appears “very milky”. The maximum temperature throughout Germany is between 18 and 25 degrees. In the west and northwest of the country, it is significantly cloudier and it rains little. On Sunday night, the weather will remain cloudy and rainless, the temperature will drop from 10 to 4 degrees.

According to the weather service, the weather will remain unstable during the Easter holidays as well: Rain is expected in the northwest on Sunday, and the maximum temperature will be 12 to 16 degrees. However, it should be sunnier and mostly dry in the southeast, with a temperature of 17-22 degrees. “The egg hunt will probably have to be moved indoors on Easter Monday,” meteorologist Schmid said, predicting significantly more rain across the country. But it remains mild at 12-17 degrees.
