Skier Kira Weidle suffered another setback at the World Cup in Cortina d'Ampezzo. The Starnberg native was eliminated from Saturday's downhill race after just over ten seconds. She lost her balance in a pothole and fell, but avoided a worse fall. Visibly upset, the 2021 world runner-up hit the snow with one of her ski poles.

It's been a tough season so far for Weidle. She finished in the top ten in three sprint races, but the 27-year-old also failed to live up to expectations on several occasions. In the first descent in the Dolomites on Friday she finished 16th.
Saturday's victory went to the Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinckel. Surprisingly, American Jacqueline Wiles came second, ahead of Italian Sofia Goggia. After some falls the day before, this time several runners did not reach the finish line either. In addition, the race had to be interrupted for a long time due to strong wind.
