There is almost no clientele more diverse than those who go to the supermarket checkouts. For cashiers, not only pleasant meetings are on the agenda.
Annoying at the checkout: impossible to separate goods
A cashier shared some details of her daily life on Reddit. The main focus was on the product separator on the conveyor belt.
Apparently, customers often forget to place a divider on the conveyor belt to separate the food they pay for from the food in front and behind.
This not only bothers the cashiers, because otherwise they would incorrectly assign products to another customer and they would have to cancel what they have entered. At the latest, when they get angry when asking which property belongs to whom, the topic of property separation gets on their nerves.
If a person stands in line with a deposit receipt but does not use a product separator, cashiers will sometimes assign the receipt to the wrong purchase. This also costs the service staff nerves and could easily be avoided.
Bottles roll back and forth on the box conveyor belt
Misplaced bottles on the checkout conveyor belt also cause a stir, rolling back and forth and ideally displacing remaining purchases and the product divider.
Bottles that are set up and prone to falling and breaking don't make working at the checkout any less stressful. Cashiers and many shoppers agree: bottles should be placed next to the checkout belt.
Fruit on the conveyor belt at the cash register – this will annoy the cashiers
Cashiers find it especially annoying to have to weigh the same fruit or vegetable five times, because customers place apples, carrots, etc. individual in different places on the checkout belt. Better and more practical for everyone: putting fruits and vegetables on the conveyor belt according to the type.
The payment process: often unnecessarily complicated
Customers who pay by card instead of cash often seem to face challenges. While some people seem surprised when they have to pay at the checkout, others arrive with an invalid bank card.
Because without a signature on the bank card, customers must present an identification document. If there is no identification option, payers also come up with the idea of asking the cashier for a pen so they can quickly sign the card.
If payers only carry their partner's card but do not have authorization, in theory they cannot simply pay with it. Cashiers can then reject the card.
By the way, there should be at least a remote similarity, especially when comparing signatures. Otherwise, the employees at the checkout will not only become irritated, but also angry.
Rudeness towards staff.
A classic that everyone who works in the service sector knows: rude customers who are too polite even to greet with phrases.
It's very easy to make the cashier's day more pleasant: a friendly “hello” and “goodbye” shouldn't be too much.
Some shoppers also blame the man or woman at the checkout for everything that has gone wrong at the supermarket: if food prices are wrong or out of stock, the cashiers tend to feel it too.
Our advice: do it better and perhaps, in addition to a smile, give a few words of gratitude with your next purchase. This creates a good atmosphere and protects your nerves.
